Merit Internship in Data-intensive Astronomy
MerIDiAn is an internship offered by the Computational & Observational Astronomy Lab of the Department of Physical Sciences of IUB. The interns work closely with the director Khan Asad and the research assistants (RA) of COALab. It is meant for advanced undergraduates and recently graduated students of physics, engineering, mathematics and computer science. The position is always open; please contact Khan Asad and you will be hired based on your merit and the availability of timeslots. More details are given below.
- We are always hiring, but you have to apply and work only during a IUB semester, spring, summer or autumn. The calendar of Summer 2024 is attached here.
- For applying, send a well-written 1-page SOP and your CV to kasad@iub.edu.bd. SOP instructions are given below.
- Online, offline and hybrid, all work-styles are possible, please mention your preference in the SOP.
- You can work only on one of the available projects. A list of currently available projects are shown below.
- Duration is negotiable, from one to six months.
- Initially unpaid, but you can get paid later based on performance.
- A certificate will be given based on a final report and presentation.
Eligibility criteria
- Fluency in linear algebra, Unix shell, Python and Jupyter Lab.
- Ability to work at IUB if you choose offline or hybrid style.
- Your own computer (preferably, laptop with Ubuntu).
- Either advanced undergraduate or recent graduate in physics, mathematics, engineering or computer science.
